You know, the world isn't run by the laws written on paper. It's run by people. Some according to laws, others not. It depends on each individual how his world will be, how he makes it. And you also need a whole lot of luck so that somebody else doesn't make your life hell. And it ain't as simple as they tell you in grade school. But it is good to have strong values and to maintain them: in marriage, in crime, in war - always and everywhere.

You know, I think it's important to keep a balance in things. Yeah, balance, that's the right word. Because the guy who wants too much risks losing absolutely everything. Of course, the guy who wants too little from life, might not get anything at all.

Scherzer made a case to win the NL Pitcher of the Month Award for the third consecutive month after he posted a 2.31 ERA with 45 strikeouts in five starts in June. He will match up with his former Tigers teammate, Rick Porcello, against the Red Sox.

One bad pitch, which led to a three-run home run, tainted what was overall a solid start by Porcello against the Angels on Wednesday. He struck out five in 5 2/3 innings, finishing with a no-decision. He enters his Monday start with a 3.60 ERA.

LeBlanc will look to get back on track after giving up 10 runs (nine earned) and 18 hits in 10 1/3 innings over his last two starts. The 33-year-old threw five innings of two-run ball in a 5-3 win over the Angels on June 11.

Heaney will pitch on an extra day’s rest in the opener vs. Seattle following his second-shortest outing of the season, when he allowed six runs over 3 1/3 frames in Boston. His shortest start of '18 came in his previous visit to Safeco on June 11.

Roark will be happy to turn the calendar page from the month of June, when he posted a 6.08 ERA in six games (five starts). His most recent outing against the Phillies was encouraging, however, as he gave up two runs (one earned) in six innings.

The lefty has been an effective fill-in this season. Last time out, he held the Angels to three hits and a run over four innings in a 4-2 Red Sox win. Johnson looks forward to batting in D.C. He hit 15 homers for the Florida Gators.

Corbin has pitched well in his last two starts, but has a pair of no-decisions to show for his efforts. Two starts ago, he struck out 12 Pirates over seven innings, and last time out he gave up just one run over six innings to the Giants.

Mikolas allowed the Braves one run in 6 1/3 on Friday. Although he's claimed the loss in two of his last three decisions, Mikolas is still the Cards' most consistent starter with Michael Wacha out.

Stepping in for Ian Kennedy, who went on the DL, the 25-year-old righty will make his second start and fourth appearance for K.C. Oaks gave up five runs on 12 hits through five innings vs. the White Sox in his only start of the season on April 28.

Bauer picked up a hard-luck loss on Friday in Oakland after allowing two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Over his past nine starts, the righty has a 2.01 ERA with 91 strikeouts vs. 15 walks in 62 2/3 innings.

Anderson threw a career-best eight innings in his last start, a win at Dodger Stadium. Anderson has struggled at home, but he believes a few key pitches executed could turn that around.

Suarez may have had the most efficient seven-hit, six-inning start in the Majors in his 2-1 victory Friday at Arizona. He gave up seven hits, all singles, and five of them did not get out of the infield.

Boyd is winless in his last four starts, but he tempered his struggles with a quality start Saturday in Toronto, settling for a no-decision. He’s 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA at Comerica Park this year.

Gallardo will be making his fourth start of the season for the Rangers. His best start came in his last outing against the White Sox on Friday, when he allowed three runs on four hits and struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings.

Sidelined for more than two months with an ailing elbow, Cueto will be making his first appearance since April 28. He faced the Cardinals regularly while pitching for Cincinnati (2008-15), but their roster has turned over significantly since then.

Weaver looks to bounce back from a rough outing Saturday, in which the Braves hung eight runs on the righty in 4 2/3 innings. He fired a strong seven innings the last time he faced the Giants, fanning nine and giving up two runs on Sept. 3, 2017.

In his last two starts, Verlander has allowed four and five earned runs, respectively, the most in any two starts he’s had this year. He has struck out double-digit batters three times this year, but Houston is 0-3 in those games.

Rodon gave up five earned runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts his last time out in a loss against the Rangers. Rodon is 1-3 with a 4.55 ERA in five starts since being activated off the 60-day DL on June 9.

The 26-year-old lefty is coming off his first career complete game, allowing six hits in a 4-1 victory over the Royals. Gonzales has two no-decisions this year vs. the Angels, giving up seven runs on 16 hits over 11 innings.

Barria will start in place of Tyler Skaggs, who landed on the disabled list on Wednesday with a right adductor strain. Barria made his only appearance against the Mariners on June 12, when he gave up three runs (two earned) over five innings.
